GROOMING

We are currently only accepting dogs for our Training Program which have been bred here at Black Barn Kennels. The dog must be at least 9 months old prior to coming to us for training.

 

The program typically lasts 2-3 months but that is ultimately up to the dog and its owner. Over that time period your dog will be living with us, staying at our boarding facility.

 

What to expect?

Besides the obvious (a finished bird dog) you should expect one weekly phone call to discuss the progress of your dog's training, if you'd like, we love to share other content with you as well (pictures and videos). Your dog will be treated as one of our own while your dog is in our possession.

  The Training Program itself is broken into 3 steps:

• Foundation and Fundamentals - Crate Training, Field Walks, Re-Call Command, E-Collar Conditioning, Positive Reward Methods 

• Retrieving to Hand - Handling a Bird, Retrieving to Hand, Soft Mouth

• Advanced Bird Work - Ability to find and produce game birds, hold point until bird is flushed, ability to work with other dogs in the field, point and retrieve 100 birds
